In order to protect and develop our access to the raw materials and superior savoir-faire they require,

TWG Tea provides long-term investment and support for its best suppliers.

With its partner tea plantations, TWG Tea implements a comprehensive sustainable development strategy in the sourcing of quality, raw materials (often rare or increasingly scarce) and in enriching the transmission of savoir-faire (at times traditional, unique and specific to our industry).

Beyond this, and in line with the brand’s values, TWG Tea sharpens artisan creativity and innovation in all its forms, through shared projects, exchanges between craftsmen and external partnerships.

Our teas are conceived, farmed, processed, blended and even packaged by hand, and our accessories are sourced with an eye for an exceptional use of ancient techniques and workmanship, maintaining age-old savoir-faire which might otherwise simply be forgotten.

Our experiential customer services— including retail (both online and offline) of tea and tea accessories within our Boutiques, as well as our tea-infused patisserie creation and food service at our Tea Salons, rely on the personalised human touch of our dedicated and trained professional staff. This extends to preserving traditional craftsmanship.

The brand works with celebrated skilled artisans and individual craftsmen around the world –

from Asia, Europe and beyond – to develop unique, handcrafted products and tea accessories, and sustain long-term relationships with artisans and craftspeople.

In this way, within our network of porcelain ateliers, we developed an alliance with an old-world manufacturer in Vienna, Austria to offer our customers the exceptional Chinoiserie collection. Composed of merely four elements: feldspar, quartz, kaolin, and water (each porcelain factory, until today, guards the exact proportions of their recipe secret) porcelain fulfils the alchemists dream of transforming base elements into precious objects.

Works of art like the Chinoiserie teapot showcase the artistry and sophistication of the simple things in life. TWG Tea is the only retailer in Asia to offer this product.

Since our inception in 2008, we have put in place human resource policies designed to support and advance employees throughout their careers, regardless of background and ethnicity. An equal opportunity employer with over 3,000 staff in 17 countries, the ratio of male to female employees at TWG Tea is 1:1. Even more importantly, 48% of the managerial and senior management roles at TWG Tea’s Singapore HQ and subsidiaries are helmed by women.

Finally, the wellbeing of the greater community of people on plantations around the world working to produce the marvellous teas in the TWG Tea collection plays an important role in the sustainable growth of the brand.

Tea production is one of the most labour-intensive tasks in the world. It includes tea farming, cultivation, plucking, sorting and processing using manpower heavy, traditional methods.

Thus, we make it our priority to care for the farmers and communities we source from. This starts with making an effort to understand the history and customs of the people who call the tea plantation their homes. This protects communities, retains skill and talent, and safeguards traditional jobs and cultures. TWG Tea also believes in investing in long-term partnerships.

The stability of our relationships with our partners helps tea plantations remunerate their staff fairly, and builds the capacity for them to provide care to their workforce.

TWG Tea is committed to aligning the interests of business and society as much as possible. This includes formalising and sustaining our commitment to responsible corporate governance. We have appointed an internal Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) team to help identify more ways for us to extend our commitment to contributing towards a sustainable future.

Our long-term commitment to responsible tea sourcing has led to the establishment of dedicated TWG Tea gardens on the estates of iconic partners.

TWG Tea also supports reforestation programmes through our partners. In Rwanda, our partner tea estate planted over 157,000 trees in 2020 alone as part of reforestation efforts.

TWG Tea currently has 70 Tea Salons & Boutiques in 17 countries.

Standard operating procedures in all Tea Salons & Boutiques are applied across the globe to contribute towards our efforts to operate sustainably. Water conservation is practised in all TWG Tea Salons. We have designed proprietary water dispensers for our premises which automatically turn the water off when it is not in use, greatly minimising water wastage. This helps us to conserve approximately 5,800,000 litres of water — equivalent to two Olympic sized swimming pools — each year.

We are also committed to reducing single-use disposable items. At our Tea Salons, teas are prepared using reusable cotton filters. By preparing pots of tea using loose leaf tea and reusable cotton tea filters, we avoid using 80 million teabags globally each year. TWG Tea has also eliminated the use of plastic straws and serves iced teas with proprietary glass straws which customers can bring home free of charge, encouraging the reuse of an item which is often perceived as single-use.

With the rise of eCommerce, TWG Tea has also adopted responsible warehousing and back-end logistics practices.

The brand has created customised 100% recycled and biodegradable carton boxes to protect customer orders and reduce the need for additional cushioning inside delivery boxes. Lowering the extra volumetric weight of packing materials also reduces the brand’s carbon footprint. Furthermore, the brand has moved away from plastic packing materials, moving to exclusively biodegradable materials for all deliveries – only with the exception of our most fragile tea accessories.

Tea was and always will be my preferred mode of transport. My obsession with tea has brought me to plantations around the world, known for their tea-making process with regards to flavour, craftsmanship and their organic philosophical approach. My work with such plantations to encourage sustainable practices has transformed the tea industry, making TWG Tea a global leader.
